FBI raids methadone clinic in Camden

CAMDEN, NJ (WTXF) - The FBI stormed into a methadone clinic in Camden and raided it Wednesday.

FBI agents carried boxes of evidence from the Urban Treatment Methadone Clinic. Armed agents wearing tactical gear stormed the building around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

"I had to wait about two to three hours to get dosed." Kirsten Gallimore is a recovering addict. She has been clean for three years.

She credits methadone--a prescription medication that alleviates opiate withdrawal symptoms. She arrived to the scene of flashing police lights and federal agents raiding the clinic. She and other patients say they're concerned and upset over any allegations of misconduct at a clinic entrusted to help the most desperate.

"People look down upon us and we really are trying to get our lives back together," Gallimore said.

The clinic was back open late morning even as authorities continue to investigate. Patients say computers had been removed and staff were administering medication by hand.

A woman who answered the phone at the clinic told us she has no comment.

In a statement attorney Paul Zoubek tells us Camden Treatment Associates and a separate but related entity, Urban Treatment Associates, are"fully cooperating with authorities and continue to serve their patients."

People like Jennifer Gaffney. "I try so hard to do the right thing. I come down here and you have to deal with stuff like this," Gaffney said.

The clinic remains open serving 700 people. No word on what the FBI is investigating
