Officials make arrest in New Castle arson

A Delaware man has been arrested in connection with the fire at a Dollar Tree store in New Castle March 23.

Timothy McDowell, 58-years-old, was arrested at a home in Bear, Delaware without incident March 24. He is charged with 1st degree arson, among other charges.

The fire happened inside the Dollar Tree at the Beaverbrook Plaza Shopping Center shortly after 7 p.m. Friday. The two alarm blaze was determined to have been started inside the store. The heavy flames destroyed not only the Dollar Tree, but a dry cleaner next door. The fire caused approximately $800,000 in damage.

McDowell awaits arraignment.
