Former Montgomery County couple and UPenn student among 12 killed in Costa Rica plane crash

A family with ties to Montgomery County and a University of Pennsylvania student were among the twelve people killed in a plane crash in Costa Rica.

Bruce and Irene Steinberg,of Scarsdale, New York, along with their sons 13-year-old Matthew, 20-year-old Zach and 18-year-old William who was a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania.

The student government posted on Facebook, "Together we mourn the death of a friend,a peer and a promising scholar who would have went on to change the world."

"They called me grandma. My boys would call me grandma. I was their everything. They were my everything," the family's longtime nanny Olga Villatoro said.

Also, among the dead two doctors Mitchell and Leslie Wiess, from Clearwater, Florida, along with their two children.

The family used to live in Montgomery County. Leslie was a pediatrician and Mitchell was a radiologist.They once worked at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and were very active in the Jewish community.

The investigation into what caused the cause is ongoing.
