Friends remember local man who died from heroin overdose

Chestnut Hill, Pa. (WTXF) - Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf spoke to lawmakers in Harrisburg today about the threats of opioid and heroin addiction in the Keystone State Afterwards, he talked to FOX 29 about treating those affected.

His remarks come a little more than week after a local man with a big following on social media died of a heroin overdose.

"It freaked me out because this is obviously not the first person I've known closely that I've lost to this drug," said Sofia Windly.

Sophia Windly says she was shocked and saddened when she learned her friend and former co-worker Tom Reynolds had died of a heroin overdose. Windly worked closely with Reynolds at Green Soul restaurant in Chestnut Hill over the summer.

"He could just with a few words brighten your day. He made me laugh and was probably my favorite person to work with honestly because of his aura," she explained.

Windly says she had no idea he was battling heroin, but many others did. Reynolds was actually kind of a local funny man on Twitter. Known as Tom Bro Dude. He had thousands of followers who found him hilarious. Reynolds would tweet short jokes, sometimes referring to his fight against the drug, which would take his life on September 17th.

"I'm still shocked over the loss of this person. Because he's just. It's like there are no words almost. It's terrible," said Windly.

Reynolds was found unconscious on the bathroom floor at the Trolley Car Diner in Mount Airy. His mother says NARCAN was administered; however, her son could not be revived. Ironically, he tweeted just the day before..."It feels good to be back on here. I'm sorry for my constant absences over the past few years, heroin addiction can be very time consuming."

"It's a shame because it's just such a powerful substance," said Windly.

Reynold's girlfriend tweeted out his death to his many followers.
