Community Raises Money to Help Remi

Conshohocken, Pa. (WTXF) A dog that had a very rough start in life now has a community coming together for him after his story lit social media on fire.

We introduced you to Remi the Pit Bull last week. It's believed he was used for dog fighting, thrown out and left for dead. He was saved by Russ Harper, a humane police officer with Justice Rescue. Remi's story struck a chord with people nationwide.

FOX 29's Bruce Gordon attended a fundraiser in Conshohocken that took place to help pay for some of Remi's medical bills. The event was held at Southern Cross Kitchen where Remi's story touched the heart of Southern Cross co-owner Kim Strengari.

Dog lovers Kim and Marianne Gere organized the #RemiLove benefit.

Guests were asked to join the cause and give a $20 donation. The event featured live music by Candlebox's Brian Quinn and drink specials auctions were also held throughout the event.

For those that couldn't attend the event, checks made out to RemiLove will be accepted at Stella Blu (101 Ford St, Conshohocken, PA 19428.

Remi is currently on the mend. He's expected to be released from the veterinary clinic soon, then he'll be fostered by Harper. Eventually, Remi will need a forever home.

FOX 29's Bruce Gordon reported that before the night is over they expect to raise over $12,000.

Justice Rescue is offering a $1,000 reward to find the person responsible for abusing Remi and then dumping him on the side of the road.
