Gathering of Heroes Fundraiser Will Benefit Children of Fallen Marines

Heroes and their families will be honored at the 6th Annual Gathering of Heroes Fundraiser.

Children of fallen US Marines will receive up to $300,000 in educational grants. The tragedy happened in March when their helicopter crashed during a routine training mission at Eglin Air Force Base.

There is a $20 donation fee, along with all tips and charity proceeds will be donated to the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation.

The non-profit organization, which provides scholarships for the children of Marine and law enforcement personnel who were killed in the line of duty or died under extraordinary circumstances while serving our country.

In attendance will be four Congressional Medal of Honor Recipients Hershel "Woody" Williams, Mike Thornton, Barney Barnum, and Brian Thacker. Hershel "Woody" Williams is the last living recipient from Iwo Jima. These men came to FOX 29's Good Day Philadelphia to share their experiences.

"The Medal of Honor is 'the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force, which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States,'" says MC-LEF board member Michael Wallace, "and we are fortunate enough to have these distinguished gentlemen join us at the Irish Pub to sign books, greet guests and help raise money for fellow veterans and their families."

Expect to see Montgomery County DA, Risa Ferman, Former POW Captain, Dave Drummond and General Ronald S. Coleman pouring drinks behind the bar.

The first 300 people will receive an event t-shirt; attendees can participate in the live auction, silent auction, or 50/50. The live auction items include a Phillies suite, tickets to this year's Army-Navy game in Philadelphia and a private guided hunting trip at Quantico, the Marine-Corps HQ in Northern Virginia. Exclusive military memorabilia will be included in the silent auction.

The 6th Annual Gathering of Heroes will be held at the Irish Pub on 2007 Walnut Street, Philadelphia and the fundraiser will run from 5p.m. to 8p.m.
