Gloucester County police officer charged with official misconduct

A Gloucester County police officer has been charged with official misconduct and other charges.

West Deptford Township, New Jersey Police Officer Thomas McWain has been charged by the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office in connection with an alleged scheme to place a person in a drug rehab program in which McWain had a financial interest, according to Gloucester County officials.

McWain, a four-year veteran of the West Deptford Township Police, surrendered at the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office November 7. He was initially suspended from the force with pay April of 2017 and suspended without pay November 6, according to officials.

According to the charges, the four-year veteran of the force sought to refer an individual to a drug rehab center in which he had a financial interest, accessed computerized criminal records to benefit a different individual and deleted text messages asking a person to bring drugs to a motor vehicle stop, among other things.
