Gunman shoots passenger in face, driver fires back

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - An alleged armed robber attacked two men who'd just left a bar, early Tuesday, shooting the passenger in the face. Then, police say the driver took the passenger's gun, shot back, and drove to the hospital.

FOX 29's Lauren Johnson - at Temple University Hospital - showed the white, newer-model BMW the victims were in has a bullet hole on the passenger's side of the front windshield.

The bar was in North Philadelphia, near Broad Street and Erie Avenue.

Moments later, at about 4am at Broad and Germantown Avenue, police say a man approached the driver's side of the car and announced a robbery.

He ended up firing a shot, which struck the passenger in the face. That 28-year-old is expected to survive.

That's when the 33-year-old driver took his friend's gun and fired back. We don't know if the gunman was hit. He managed to run away, and police are looking into whether the victim has a permit to carry the gun.

The driver got the passenger to the hospital. Both are there, along with the car.

The gunman is described as a man in his late 20s, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt.

Police are hoping for surveillance video from a real-time crime camera or business in the area will help them identify him.
