Gunman sought after fatally shooting woman in broad daylight

A shooter is on the run after a woman and a girl were targeted in broad daylight. A 58-year-old woman was killed. The other victim of the shooting was just a teenager, according to the Mercer County Prosecutors Office.

Trenton Police and crime scene investigators scoured the area of 8 Carver Lane after shots rang out early in the afternoon of October 6.

Many neighbors were reluctant to talk on camera. Doretta Wright-Simmons came home to find the street cordoned off a half block away from her home.

"We have beautiful homes here and down the street and right in the middle there's a problem that is actually being allowed to be a problem," said Wright-Simmons.

The shooting happened in the area of the block between a senior home and church.

"I was coming from my house to the church and I was surprised to see the police," said Oliver Cua. He is part of the congregation.

"We pray for the little girl that she survives. Our praise is for her to survive," Cua said.

Information on exactly what happened has been limited. Police searched the area more than five hours after the shooting.

"You have just a few people that are causing a major problem and that's something I feel strongly and we need to take a stand," Wright-Simmons went on to say.

Again, police are searching for the person responsible.
