Heartbreaking picture of dogs hugging and 'pleading' to be rescued leads to their adoption

Atlanta, Ga.--A picture put on the internet of two shelter dogs hugging saved them from being put down.

The picture of the dogs Kala and Keira seen in an adorable embrace was shared on Monday by the Atlanta, Georgia charity, Angels Among Us Pet Rescue on Facebook.

In the online post asking for assistance, the charity wrote in the voice of Kala, imagining the dog afraid of what would happen if no one adopted not only her, but her companion as well.

The post said: "I'm Kala. This is Keira. We're so scared in here. The people working in the shelters see how scared we are but just told each other that today is our deadline."

The post to goes on to say: "If no one saves us, someone will take her away from me. I'll see her as she goes down the hallway. She won't come back and I'll cry. They'll come for me next and I won't be as brave. We've comforted each other while we were here. She gave me hope when I had none. Now it's over. Unless..."

Angels Among Us Pet Rescue wrote another post following the original: "Today is their last day unless we can save them. This is as urgent as urgent can get. We really don't have time to spare. We have no fosters available."

The emotional post apparently worked because according to the charity, two hours and six minutes after the original post, Kala and Keira were saved and being driven by a volunteer to a veterinarian.
