Inmate sought in Berks County after failing to return from work release

READING, Pa. (FOX 29) - Authorities in Berks County are searching for an escaped inmate who never returned after going out on work release last week.

28-year-old Hector Ruben Ortiz Jr., never returned to Berks County Jail last Thursday after he went to work at the Morgan Corporation in Morgantown, Pennsylvania.

Ortiz is described as 6 feet tall, about 190 pounds, and was last seen wearing a grey hoodie and grey pants with a diamond pattern on the pant legs.

Authorities say Ortiz left work last week and was dropped off at the intersection of Route 422 and Lancaster Avenue in Reading City along with a coworker.
