Lightning Kills Newlywed Woman, Injures Husband 6 Days After Wedding

DENVER, CO - Six days after her wedding, a woman was killed by lightning.

Kathleen Bartlett, 31, and Ryan Pocius, 32, were hiking on Friday when they were hit by a lightning bolt, according to authorities.

KMGH-TV reported that the bride died on the side of Mt. Yale and that her husband was flown to a Colorado Springs hospital in stable condition.

The couple, who met while Bartlett worked as a cocktail waitress, had just celebrated their wedding on July 11 at the Denver Botanic Gardens, according to their wedding page hosted on TheKnot.com. The website publicly lists information about Barlett's and Pocius's love story, wedding details, photos, and registry.

"Turns out, we ended up having more things in common than we first thought, including a shared appreciation for kids' movies, yoga, sarcasm and love for the outdoors," Bartlett wrote. "It became apparent very quickly that we had both found 'our person."

Unfortunately the celebration ended shortly for the newly married couple.

"She was just so in love and so grateful and just so happy," said Deborah Young, a friend of Bartlett's to KMGH-TV.

Two other hikers were hit on the same day, but survived with only minor injuries.
