Southwest Philadelphia Business Owner Wounded in Stabbing

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) Police are investigating a stabbing in Southwest Philadelphia that happened shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday.

The stabbing occurred on the 6200 block of Dicks Ave inside Southwest Auto Tags. Police say it was a botched robbery.

"It looks like the male was stabbed over 20 times in the head, the arms, the shoulders the sides-- just a very violent struggle,” said Philadelphia Police Lt. Johnny Walker.

Friends identified the victim as 62-year-old Patrick Spinosa of Chadds Ford. He's the 40-year owner of Southwest Auto Tags on the corner of 63rd and Dicks Avenue.

"Great guy. All he does is work all the time. Comes here and works and goes home and takes care of his wife. Just a great guy,” said friend Joe Coletta told FOX 29.

Police were busy talking with witnesses on Thursday night while detectives were huddled around a computer monitor scouring surveillance video from nearby businesses that may have seen the suspect run away.

"When the male left he locked the door. So that's why the officers kicked through that door to actually get to him. Obviously, his injuries were devastating,” said Lt. Walker

At least one camera captured the suspect leaving scene of the crime.

The victim was transported to Penn Presbyterian Hospital where he’s listed in critical condition.
