Media, Pa. (WTXF) Authorities in Delaware County have announce indecent assault charges against a Chester Police Officer Thursday afternoon.
District Attorney Jack Whelan held a press conference Thursday afternoon to announce charges against Officer Roosevelt Turner, a 7-year veteran of the force.
Officer Roosevelt Turner is accused of indecent exposure and assault of three female jail inmates between April and August of last year. According to the DA, the women being booked into jail on separate occasions became victims. The jail cell incidents happened outside the view of surveillance cameras, according to investigators.
But at least one person says he can't believe the charges against the man they say is a pillar in the community.
"Mr. Turner is a mentor, a father, a friend. One that cares about his community,” said childhood friend Pastor Calvin Williams. “I can't believe seeing that, honestly. Mr. Turner is one that would fight against that. I have seen him fight for justice for other women."
And despite the charges even his own chief says Turner was a good cop.
"I knew him well and I don't want to talk personally about him,” said Chester Police Commissioner Darren Alston.
When asked by FOX 29 how Officer Turner was as an officer the response was, "He was a good officer. From everything I've seen he was a good officer.”
Turner was taken off the job Thursday morning, arrested and was released on 10% of $25,000 bail. Prosecutors say they would not be surprised if additional victims come forward.
