Suspect Dead following shooting in lobby of West Chester courthouse

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP) - A shooting has occurred in the lobby of a suburban Philadelphia courthouse, and at least one person is injured.

The shooting at the West Chester courthouse involved a member of the Chester County sheriff's office and a man who apparently tried to enter the courthouse.

Witnesses tell FOX 29's Sabina Kuriakose that the suspect, now confirmed as Curtis Smith,  dressed in all black shouted, "I'm going to get you" before attacking the officer.

The gunfire was reported shortly before noon as the morning court sessions were winding up.

Smith, 33, allegedly climbed over the outer perimeter stone wall of the White House back in March.

Emergency medical personnel and deputy sheriffs removed the suspect who appeared to be handcuffed from the front security screening area on a stretcher.

Chester County District Attorney Thomas P. Hogan said in a Facebook post that the situation has been "neutralized" and detectives were investigating.

He says the court will be closed for the rest of the day.
