PHILADELPHIA (WTXF)- As a father of two girls, FOX 29's Chris O'Connell could never imagine going a single day without seeing their smiling faces.
When he woke up one morning with what he describes as a "painless loss of vision" in his left eye, he didn't think much of it.
He sat up, got dressed, and headed to work, under the impression it was nothing more than a migraine.
Two days later, that first impression changed. Chris finally found himself in a doctor's office, and then inside another doctor’s office.
This would mark the beginning of a lifelong medical journey for Chris.
Chris' condition left doctors scratching their heads at first. The cause of his ailment was unknown.
Six weeks had passed, and after a battery of blood work, and diagnostic tests, Chris and his family still had no answers.
In the meantime, his condition was getting worse.
"The best way to describe it is this eye feels like it's smeared with Vaseline. I could see color. I could see shapes."
Then they found the answer. But it wasn't what his eye doctors were expecting, nor was it something they could handle on their own.
Tonight at 10:00 p.m., Chris takes us on his journey as he and doctors looked to solve the medical mystery behind his blindness.
