Navy reservist reunites with kitty he left behind in Iraq

MANITOWOC COUNTY, WI - A California veteran is reunited with the little kitty he left behind in Iraq.

It’s been months since Brad Vancleave has seen his kitten Mister Meowgi. The two met while Vancleave had been working as a government contractor at the Baghdad International Airport.

“In July of 2015, I saw a baby kitten and he stuck his head out from one of the shipping containers, and we started feeding it and the mom." "Every morning, when we would pull up, he would run up from his little shelter and he would just meow his head off, and so we gave him the name Mr. Meowgi," Vancleave said.

When the Navy reservist had to leave, he also left behind Mister Meowgi, but on Thursday, the pals were finally reunited at the Los Angeles International Airport.

Mister Meowgi left Baghdad back in March 27 then went to Iraq, Germany and New York , before arriving In Los Angeles to meet Vancleave.

"I knew if I left him there and didn't bring him back, the chances of him being alive when i got back were pretty slim," Vancleave recalled.

Baggage handlers carried Mister Meowgi to his old friend.

The SPCA international and Operation Baghdad:Pups made this reunion possible.

"I wasn’t worried at all," Vancleave said. "People who care for cats, whether they're on deployment, when they're that attached to an animal, I wouldn't do anything less than bring him back," Vancleave said.
