Boy, 14, arrested for shooting 15-year-old in West Philadelphia

WEST PHILADELPHIA (AP/WTXF) - Police say a 14-year-old boy has been arrested for shooting and critically wounding a 15-year-old boy late Monday night in West Philadelphia.

Around 11:30 p.m., Monday night officers responded to a neighborhood playground on the 5400 block of Cherry Street, where the teen was suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Authorities say the victim, the shooter and at least one other male were all "hanging out together" when an argument apparently broke out. They say the victim and the shooter knew each other, but declined to provide further details.

The victim was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

The alleged shooter was arrested Tuesday at his home. He has been charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses after shooting his friend.

Fewer than 24 hours prior to Monday's shooting, a 14-year-old was critically injured after being shot in the head in North Philadelphia.

Police say they are working to more strictly enforce curfews in an effort to curb violence affecting minors in Philadelphia, though they acknowledge curfew is only one piece of the puzzle.

Curfew for minors 13 and older is 10:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday. For those under 13, curfew is 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
