Man arrested in Schuylkill River Trail slashing

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) Philadelphia police say they have made an arrest in connection with a slashing on the Schuylkill River Trail.

People on the Schuylkill River Trail Friday evening were relieved to hear the news. But some are still a little shaken because police say the victim did not know her attacker.

"It was a random person so that's scary to think about that," said Isabelle Schwartz.

Police arrested and charged 29-year-old Isiah Cheeseboro who they say had several razors on him when he was taken into custody. The victim, a 24-year-old woman, was leaving the trail and headed up the stairs to Walnut Street when police say the suspect followed her then slashed her across the forehead.
She suffered a three inch cut. It was 3 o’clock in the afternoon.

"I didn't know that. That's crazy That makes me a little nervous," said Madeline Kim.  She and her friends say they felt safe here as long as it’s during the day and they’re not alone but now they’re having second thoughts.

"Knowing the fact that it can happen any time of the day, it might be bright outside with lots of people but it's still going to happen. That kind of concerns me," said Maria Bellacosa.

Henry Lee and Iman Jones come here often and say it won't change their routine.

"I have learned how to navigate in a way where I'm not open to those type of situations," said Lee.

Jones wants to know why it happened.

"I more so question why someone would feel the need or what would push them to do things of that nature more than I would question the area that I'm in," said Jones.

Police believe the suspect may be homeless although he gave them a Philadelphia address. They say he was also spotted on surveillance cameras placing him in the area around the time of the attack.
