16 people displaced after blaze in Norristown home

Sixteen people have been displaced following an overnight fire in Norristown.

The fire broke out around 11:45 p.m. in a dwelling on the 1200 block of Powell Street.

The fire was reported to have been heaviest on the second floor of the three-story home with flames extending to other properties.

Two residents escaped from the home from the third floor onto a second floor roof.

The Norristown Fire Chief said that the cold weather was a huge factor in battling the blaze.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries, but remained on scene.

The Red Cross is providing emergency aid such as food, clothing, and shelter to those displaced by the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
