Demonstrators vow to "shut the city down" when the DNC comes to Phila

PHILADELPHIA. PA (WTXF) - Protesters are bowing to make waves at the Democratic National Convention, when the DNC comes to Philadelphia July 25-28.

"We're going to shut you the hell down!" said Asa Khalif of Black Lives Matter. "That's my promise to you!"

The Kenney administration had promised to work with protest groups so their voices can be heard, but wants groups to get permits for protest marches. Nothing doing, said a group of activists gathered in Center City Tuesday.

"With or without a permit, we march," said Erica Mines of the Philly Coalition for R.E.A.L. Justice.  "We have nothing to lose but our chains."

You might assume that Democrats partying in a city run by Democrats would be largely uninterrupted by dissent.
Hardly.

Shani Akilah of the Black and Brown Workers' Collective railed against presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, vowing that the former Secretary of State will be "living in chaos when you come to Philadelphia."

Civil rights attorney Larry Krasner promised he and other lawyers will be ready to defend protesters arrested at the convention, "down to the last one."
