2 charged in carjackings that led to chase, police involved shooting

- Philadelphia Police have arrested and charged two men in connection with a carjacking that led resulted in a police involved shooting.

Thursday morning, around 4:30 a.m. a Philadelphia officer in uniform spotted a white Toyata Camry being driven by a man at Rhawn Street and Castor Avenue. The vehicle had been reported stolen just minutes earlier in a gunpoint carjacking at 980 Bustleton Avenue.

The officer pursued the vehicle to the 8300 block of Horrocks Street, where the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Tyrik Robinson, fled the vehicle and pointed a gun at the officer, according to police.

The officer fired his weapon one time, missing the suspect, who then fled into Pennypack Park and was caught on foot after hiding in the bushes.

Officers in plain clothes then spotted a second suspect hiding in the area of Horrocks and Strahle Streets and watched him attempt to discard the keys to a 2009 Hyundai Tuscon that was parked nearby.

Police say that SUV was stolen in a gun point carjacking earlier in the morning in Falls Township.

The second suspect was identified as 19-year-old Nacir Breland.

Both suspects were taken into custody without further incident, and no officers or civilians were injured.
