Matthew makes landfall in South Carolina as a category 1 hurricane, rapidly weakening

- Hurricane Matthew has made landfall – and is now rapidly weakening.

The storm made its official landfall just southeast of McClellanville, South Carolina at 11:00 a.m. as a category 1 hurricane with winds of 75 mph, according to FOX 29’s Chief Meteorologist Scott Williams.

The Charleston area will see lots of flooding from the storm surge.

In our area, expect cloudy skies with scattered showers around Saturday afternoon and evening, with the heaviest showers likely south and east.

High temperatures will be in the upper 60s to near 70, with early showers down the shore into Sunday morning followed by clearing and much cooler weather Sunday, with highs in the low to mid 60s.

There is a flash flood water in Kent and Sussex counties in Delaware where rain could be enhanced with tropical moisture from Matthew.
