Police: Robbery Suspects Impersonating Police in South Philadelphia

- Philadelphia Police say they are looking for two people who posed as police officers in order to commit two robberies Sunday morning.

The first of the two incidents occurred early Sunday morning on the 400 block of Jackson Street in South Philadelphia.

Investigators say a man and woman got out of a car and approached a woman, as the male suspect flashed a badge.

They went on to identify themselves as police officers, and demanded that the woman come over to them, saying that she would be arrested should she resist.

The woman managed to run away, as the suspects fled north on 5th Street in their in their vehicle.

Later in the morning, around 6:20 a.m., officers responded to a call of a robbery in progress on the 1600 block of East Passyunk Avenue.

There, police were met by a 21-year-old man who said that he had been walking down the street when a car pulled up beside him, and the man driving the car got out and flashed a badge.

Police say the driver then identified himself as an officer, and told the victim that he fit the description of a man selling drugs. The suspect then asked the victim to hand over his ID, and the victim handed over his wallet.

The male suspect then handed the female suspect the victim's ID and a medical card, and asked her to make sure they matched, while he patted down the victim, and looked around in his backpack.

When the victim's wallet was returned the suspects sped off in their car, and the victim realized all of the money in his wallet was gone.

The first suspect has been described as a bald white male standing 5'5", between the ages of 30 and 40, wearing a gray windbreaker, with a clean shave.

The second suspect is described as a white female between the ages of 25-35, standing 5'5", with back hair, a stocky build, and glasses.

Both suspects have been traveling in a silver Nissan sedan with a light color interior, possibly model year 2007 or 2008.
