Police Investigate Double Murder-Suicide in Hatfield

- Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Hatfield Township Police Chief William J. Tierney have announced a joint investigation into what they call an apparent double homicide and suicide inside a home in Hatfield late Sunday night.

The incident occurred on the 100 block of Diamond Street. Police responded to a residence on the block at 11:34 p.m. after reports of a shooting.

"They had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I heard them coming out laughing and talking after Thanksgiving. The weekend was quiet,” said neighbor Catherine Haire.

That image of a happy family makes it hard for neighbor Catherine Haire to wrap her head around the news that the neighbors always so ready to help her around the house were found shot to death in what police say appears to be a double murder and suicide. Bullet holes are visible in the outer wall of the home on Diamond Street in Hatfield Borough.

Police say two victims died from several bullet wounds. A third person authorities ID’d as 48-year-old Paul Marshall appears to have shot himself. The prosecutor’s office says he had a semiautomatic rifle on him when his was found.

The Haire family ID’d the  two people police say were murdered as Marshall's 48-yea-old fiancée and her 28- year-old son. They say both had recently moved into the home.  Police have not said what led to the shooting.

Unbelievably, neighbors say Marshall's 9 months pregnant daughter and 4-year- old grandchild were in the home when the shootings happened. Both made it out safely.
