POINT BREEZE (WTXF) - Philadelphia Police have arrested a man who assaulted a woman inside her Point Breeze home during a robbery.
Officials say detectives received an anonymous tip after surveillance video was released to the media identifying suspect Tillman Byrd on February 18.
On February 19, a Search Warrant was executed at Byrd’s residence on the 8xx block of North 49th Street; however Byrd was not at this location.
On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Police Department, FBI Violent Fugitive Task Force, assigned detectives, South
Detective Division Warrant Unit, and officers from the 16th District went to the 8xx block of Moss Street where Tillman Byrd was found and taken into custody without incident.
Police are now continuing the search for the second suspect involved in this horrific case. Suspect #1 is described as Black male, 5’11"-6’0", dark complected, Sunni style beard, thin build, wearing tan boots, and armed with a black handgun.
Susan and her mother weren't prepared to start their morning with a disturbing knock on the door of their home on Sunday, February 14. Two men claiming to be with a water company to check on their pipes had really terrifying intentions.
The incident occurred on the 1100 block of South Mole Street at 8:35 a.m. inside a private residence.
Susan, 39, still with the blood stains on her fleece jacket, tells FOX 29 she'd never seen the men before, and both had guns. But she put up a fight, worried about her mother.
"It was like my natural instinct to try to protect my mom, because she's dying," Susan told FOX 29's Brad Sattin. Her mom is battling pancreatic cancer.
"I said, look, you think we have money? Look, my mom is sick. We're going through chemo, I don't understand why you're doing this," she recalled.
One man ran upstairs into a bedroom. Susan saying, she can't imagine what they thought they'd find.
"They pulled all my drawers out, all the clothes were here, it was all filled with clothes. I'm not sure if they took anything, but what are they going to take?"
Meanwhile, she and her mom struggled with the other man below.
"I tried to fight him. I tried to grab his gun, tried to break his finger," Susan said.
Finding nothing, the men left, but not before one of them struck Susan in the head, requiring three stitches. Her brother, helping her home from the hospital, isn’t surprised at her bravery.
They are both overwhelmed with caring for their ailing mother and now this.
Surveillance video depicts the suspects arriving in a 2013-2015 red Ford Escape and parking it on the 1100 block of Mole Street. Nothing was taken from the residence.
Byrd, 28 is charged with robbery and related offenses.
