Throughout Monday and late into Tuesday, there will be a period of snow. Accumulations range from 1-2” in most of the advisory area and 2-3” towards to Lehigh Valley and Poconos.

The snow on Monday morning will begin southwest near Baltimore/Washington, and may be in Wilmington by 7:00 a.m.

The snow will move northeast during the morning, with steady snow expected in Philadelphia around noon.

The main impact of the winter weather will take place on Monday night. Prior to the warmer air, there will be light snow before changing to rain.

The snow will accumulate on the cold ground with high amounts north and west of I-95.

The changeover to rain in the city and close by the suburbs will happen between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

That change may take longer north and west, with 2-3 inches of snow possible in the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos.

Also, colder air at the surface tends to linger longer so a change to rain which will then freeze is possible well north and west, resulting in a possible coating of ice.

Any snow that accumulates will become slushy as heavy rain falls in Philadelphia throughout the evening.

On Tuesday expect heavy rain during the day. 1-2” of rain is expected and along with snow melt will raise flooding concerns.

On Wednesday, colder air returns with a quick moving disturbance that may cause a few rain or snow showers.
