WEST PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Philadelphia Police are investigating a homicide that occurred in West Philadelphia late Wednesday evening.
Officers responded to the 300 block South 52nd Street shortly after 11:00 p.m. for a report of shots fired.
When police arrived on scene, the discovered a 31-year-old man on the ground with suffering from gunshot wounds to the legs and back. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigators believe the victim was stepping out of his SUV when a suspect approached him and ambushed him.
Six spent shell casings were found just feet away from the victim.
The shooter fled the scene, but police say they have several witnesses who were questioned.
Investigators also plan to comb through surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
