Officials: Worker fatally crushed at Waste Management facility

- SKYFOX was over the scene where a Waste Management Employee was killed in an accident at a facility in Holmesburg.

The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning on the 5100 block of Bleigh Avenue.

Officials say sitting next to a stack of bales a worker was operating a forklift nearby which made contact with the bales of cardboard and caused them to topple.  A bale of paper weighing one ton fell on top of and crushed the 42-year-old male. 

According to police, the victim was transported to Aria Torresdale Hospital and pronounced just before 8:30 a.m..  

Waste Management released the following statement following the incident: 

"Today is a day of profound sadness for the family of the deceased and for the Waste Management family. This is a heartbreaking incident and our deepest sympathies go out to the family of the deceased.  We are working with local authorities and would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the first responders who attended and assisted at the scene."
