Police: Shot Fired Inside Ben Franklin High School

- "Kids are supposed to be safe inside a school and not have to worry about gun shots," said a parent.

Ben Franklin High School remained a crime scene well into the evening. Police say someone fired a gun inside the school just before noon Friday forcing a lockdown and causing panic.

"She just told me she heard gunshots in the hallway and she was scared," said Nyemah Capehart. She got a frantic call from her sister who is a student at the school.

Police say they arrived to find a 45 caliber shell casing in a stairwell and eventually a gun inside.  They believe the shot was fired after a fight among students.

"Right now we are being told another individual fired a shot. We don't know if that's true or not but the shot was confirmed by a security officer on location," said Police Commissioner Richard Ross.

Fox  29 cameras captured several students in handcuffs being taken away by police. We've blurred their faces. So far no charges have been filed. The 5 students were taken in for questioning police said.

"I just want to get him out of here. It's crazy because it happened inside a school," said Alma Hellams. She showed up to pick up her son. Her nerves were rattled by what happened.

"It's really a good school so to hear something like this happen I just really want to take him out," she said.
No one was hurt.
