School employee in Jan. boiler explosion succumbs to injuries

A veteran school employee has died after suffering injuries in a boiler explosion at Franklin S. Edmonds Elementary School on Jan. 13.

According to the School District of Philadelphia, Christopher Trakimas, a plant mechanic, succumbed to his injuries Wednesday.

The School District of Philadelphia Superintendent released the following statement in part:

"On behalf of the entire School District of Philadelphia community, I offer my sincere condolences to Mr. Trakimas' family, colleagues, loved ones and the Franklin S. Edmonds school community. A 25-year veteran employee, Mr.

Trakimas was committed to the students and families of Philadelphia and we owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude for his service.
Maintenance Director Bob Hunter described Mr. Trakimas as a dedicated and proud employee, who was not only a hard worker, but a great husband, father and person.

I join with Chief Operating Officer Fran Burns in extending sincere appreciation to his colleagues and the 32BJ SEIU union for supporting his family over these difficult months. We ask that you keep his family and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers during this time."
