Cab driver shot in apparent botched robbery

- A Philadelphia cab driver is recovering after being shot in the city's Point Breeze neighborhood early Saturday morning.

Police responded to a call for a botched robbery and shooting just after 3:30 a.m. at 23rd and Morris Streets.

According to police, the cab driver picked up three passengers at Broad and Wharton streets, who asked to be taken to 23rd and Morris.

Once they arrived at their destination, one of the passengers attempted to rob the driver, before he pulled out a gun and shot the driver in the shoulder.

The driver managed to get out of the car and run for help, but police say witnesses spotted a man and woman, who were locked inside, yelling for help getting out.

Witnesses say someone helped the pair out of the van, and they were gone by the time police arrived.

Police are not yet sure when the third suspect got out of the cab.

Investigators are combing through surveillance footage hoping to find out more about the incident.

The cab driver was taken to Presbyterian Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

No arrests have been made.
