Man charged with double stabbing that left girlfriend dead and her son critical

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP/WTXF) -- A man who police say fatally stabbed his girlfriend and critically wounded her son during an attack in Camden has been arrested.

It's not yet known what spurred the attack, which occurred around 3 p.m. Sunday on the 2800 block of Garfield Avenue.

Both victims were taken to a hospital, where 37-year-old Elaine Jimenez was pronounced dead a short time later. Her 20-year-old son remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Investigators say 29-year-old Raul Quinones had entered Jimenez's home Sunday afternoon to retrieve some of his belongings when he stabbed her. Jimenez reportedly fled the house injured and on foot.

While inside the house, Quinones stabbed her 20-year-old son several times before following Jimenez. Police say he continued to attack her outside the home before fleeing via motorcycle.

Quinones was arrested at his home on Fountain Avenue late Sunday night. He has been charged with one count of first degree Murder and one count of first degree Attempted Murder. He currently awaits a pretrial detention hearing.

This is an ongoing investigation.
