Man arrested in connection to murder of man outside of funeral home at grandmother's viewing

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) -- Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colallilo and Camden Police announced that a Camden man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last week.

Police say 22-year-old Jonathan Vazquez was shot to death outside a New Jersey funeral home while a viewing was under way for his grandmother.

31-year-old Victor Rodriguez was charged Saturday as an accomplice in the 22-year-old's murder. He was arrested around 8:00 p.m. Saturday.

Police say the viewing was being held at the May Funeral Home in Camden Thursday evening for 70-year-old Rosa Serrano. The shooting happened in front of the building around 7 p.m.

According to a press release, Camden County Police responded at 6:31 p.m. to the location on the 1000 block of South 4th Street in reference to 911 calls and a ShotSpotter activation for multiple gunshots.

Officers arrived and discovered the victim suffering from gunshot wounds on the ground.

He was taken to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced at 6:40 p.m.

Rodriguez was remanded to Camden County Jail on $1,000,000 bail.

Vazquez is the 14th homicide victim of the year in Camden and second this month.

No one was available for comment from the funeral home.
