Car carrying oxygen, acetylene explodes in Bridesburg; 1 hurt

Bridesburg (WTXF)- A man was taken to the hospital after his car exploded in Bridesburg.

Melissa Deacy couldn't believe the dramatic scene unfolding before her eyes on Richmond Street.

“I was just sweeping in the kitchen and heard a boom. I ran out and I see the guy running out of the car and started running, and it just like blew up,” Decay said.

She grabbed her camera and started filming. The driver has already escaped by diving out his door with only seconds to spare- he did suffer some burns

The car continues to erupt even though it's a fireball, you can see still see other cars and even school buses driving by the flaming wreckage. Footage shows a guy starting to move in for a better look

Neighbors were shocked after the violent explosion spewed car parts over lawns hundreds of feet away.

Investigators think these are the culprits, 2 tanks and 1 contained oxygen, the other acetylene. Police say they were in the trunk of the Honda when something caused one of them to ignite and fuel the other to erupt.

The bomb squad and fire marshal investigated but found nothing nefarious or suspicious.

With such a fiery scene Richmond Street by Wheatsheaf was shut down for hours and traffic turned around.

The driver was taken to Temple University Hospital with burns on his hands.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
