Threats Reported on Chichester Schools

- Several threats have been reported Tuesday morning at schools up and down the East Coast, leading to closures and evacuations, although it is unknown how closely the threats are linked.

A threat made to the Chichester school district, in Delaware County this morning prompted the district to evacuate all students and conduct searches of schools.

Threats were also reported today across districts in Sussex County, Delaware, in North Jersey and in Massachusetts.

This comes after a string of threats last week-- again in delaware, in maryland and in virginia.

A series of bomb threats throughout our region have forced authorities to dedicate time and resources to investigating their credibility.  Locally Delaware County was the target of a threat that led to the evacuation of an entire school district.

A scary situation today in Delaware County as all 6 schools in the Chichester school district had to be evacuated after receiving a bomb

The threat itself was taken very seriously but was likely given even more attention as the district was made aware of reports of similar threats in our area

Concerned parents showed up in large numbers at evacuation sites they heard about on Facebook looking for answers about the safety of their children.  Not knowing the urgency of the situation they were frustrated by how things were handled

Police from several surrounding districts continued to clear the schools and so far there's no indication that the multi state threats are related.  As for the concerned parents the Superintendent and other authorities recognize inconvenience but today had a larger responsibility.

Michael Chitwood, superintendent of the Upper Darby police, appeared on FOX 29 Tuesday to discuss the threats:
