Coast Guard Rescues Two Off New Jersey Coast

The U.S. Coast Guard hoisted two people to safety Sunday from a marsh off the coast of Fortescue, N.J.

The Coast Guard has received a call that two men were stranded on a marsh after their sailing vessel became disabled. So a helicopter crew responded , hoisted the two men to safety. They were taken to Cape May Airport with no reported injuries. The owner of the boat hopes that he can salvage the vessel.

"Thankfully these mariners had both working communications and signaling devices," said Lt. j.g. Matthew Kolb, the helicopter's copilot, said in a statement.

"They were able to call for help on a cell phone, which ensured quick dispatch of the helicopter crew leading to a timely rescue. Using our night-vision goggles we were able to easily see their emergency flare, and expeditiously locate and recover the cold sailors."
