Congressman works to save 30th Streets Station's flipping departure board

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - After the news that the famous flipping departure board would be departing Philadelphia's 30th Street Station itself, a local congressman is working to keep it right where it is.

It looked like a done deal but Congressman Brendan Boyle has been pushing to save the sign from going digital. His spokesman says Amtrak is considering keeping the sign.

FOX 29 cameras were there Tuesday as workers were tearing out advertisement boards to reportedly make way for new digital monitors to tell passengers where they're going and when.

Most say the old flip board is historic but others agree the station needs a makeover, including the departure board.

Amtrak initially said if the change happened, it would be early next year.

No word on if that date still holds.
