Fans take part in the 6th Annual Phillies Charities 5K

Phillies fans are getting ready! Thousands of them, laced up their sneakers to race around Citizens bank park for the 6th Annual Phillies Charities 5K.

The Phillies want to give back to the community and clearly the community wants to help because this event was sold out.

As we've seen in years' past, 6,000 runners will be lining up outside Citizens Bank Park this morning to run a 5k to support Phillies Charities, the charitable arm of the Phillies organization.

Phillies charities raises millions of dollars each year and donates the money to deserving organizations throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Last year, Phillies Charities says it awarded nearly 2 million dollars in grants to several organizations.

For Saturday's event, the Phillies Phanatic was back from spring training and ready to pump of this crowd of thousands. The route takes people around the stadium as well as FDR Park. Live bands motivate runners throughout the course and at the end people can do a lap on the field, before they wrap up with a party at Xfinity Live.

The race kicked off at 9:00 Saturday morning. If you couldn't participate in the sold out even, and want to donate, you still can. There are several opportunities thru the Phillies website.
