Former Sixer Doug Overton pleads guilty to disorderly conduct

BALA CYNWYD, Pa. (WTXF) - Former Sixers player and Lincoln University head basketball coach Doug Overton has plead guilty to allegedly exposing himself on a public trail back in May.

Lower Merion police said they received numerous calls about a man exposing himself on the Cynwyd Heritage Trail.

Officers arrested Overton after witnesses identified him. He was charged with indecent exposure and disorderly conduct, and released on $10,000 bail.

Overton, who previously said he was innocent, plead guilty to three counts of disorderly conduct. He was sentenced to one year of probation, and ordered to undergo psycho-sexual evaluation and comply with recommendations.

Overton recently finished his first year as head coach of Lincoln University's men's basketball team. He was hired a year ago, and named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association's coach of the week twice over the season.

As a player, Overton was a standout at La Salle University and played 11 seasons in the NBA for eight teams.

Below is a statement from Doug Overton regarding the incident on Cynwyd Trail in Lower Merion in April:

“I went to the Cynwyd Trail to walk my dog, which I typically do three or four times a week. As I sometimes do, I stopped to pick up a cup of tea on my way to the trail. Of course, during the walk I felt the need to relieve myself. With the nearest bathroom nearly a mile away, I stepped off the trail and into a wooded area to take care of business in what I thought was a discreet manner. I then pulled up my sweat pants and returned to the trail to continue walking my dog.  That is the only thing that happened. Unfortunately, it appears I wasn’t as discreet as I thought, and some misinterpreted what they saw. I sincerely apologize for my lapse of judgment and the confusion it caused.”
