Giant Food announces recall of Maggi Chicken Bouillon tablets

- Giant Food has announced that it has removed Maggi Chicken Bouillon Tablets from sale following a recall by Nestle USA.

According to a press release, the tablets may contain wheat, an allergen that is not listed on the ingredient label.

The press release states that the product is safe for people who do not suffer from a wheat allergy to consume.

The following products are included in this recall:

Maggi Chicken Bouillon, 6 Tabs, 2.43 oz., UPC 2800024795

Maggi Chicken Bouillon, 12 Tabs, 4.86 oz., UPC 2800011567

So far, Giant has not received reports of illnesses to date.

The press release states:

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

Symptoms of food allergies typically appear from within a few minutes to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which he or she is allergic. Allergic reactions can include: hives; flushed skin or rash; tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth; face, tongue, or lip swelling; vomiting and/or diarrhea; abdominal cramps; coughing or wheezing; dizziness and/or lightheadedness; swelling of the throat and vocal cords; difficulty breathing; loss of consciousness.

Customers who have purchased the product are advised in the press release to discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Giant for a full refund.
