Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka charged in 1983 death of girlfriend

- Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka has been charged with murder of the third degree and involuntary manslaughter in the death of his girlfriend Nancy L. Argentino in 1983, according to court documents. His bail has been set at $100,000.

Lehigh County District Attorney James B. Martin held a news conference at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday to announce the outcome of the Grand Jury investigation of Argentino's death.

The news conference was held in the conference room of the District Attorney’s Office in the Lehigh County Courthouse in Allentown.

Argentino was found unresponsive in a motel room at the George Washington Motor Lodge in Whitehall Township on May 11, 1983.

According to WFMZ, Argentino’s death fell under “unusual circumstances,” and the case began to be re-examined in January 2014.

The 23-year-old was traveling with her boyfriend at the time, Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, a professional wrestler with WWF, now WWE.

Argentino died of traumatic brain injuries consistent with a moving head striking a stationary object, according to autopsy results.

No criminal charges were filed against Snuka.

He maintains that Argentino fell and hit her head when they stopped to go to the bathroom along the highway en route to Allentown.

Nancy’s sister Louise Argentino-Upham released the following statement:

The family is very happy they will have some closure especially for the mother that turns 90 in April and just had open heart surgery. She will have some closure in her lifetime."

The WWE also released a statement:

"WWE expresses its continued sympathy to the Argentino family for their loss.  Ultimately this legal matter will be decided by our judicial system."
