Large South Philadelphia Fire Probed as Possible Arson

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Authorities say they are investigating an early morning blaze in south Philadelphia that displaced more than a dozen people as a possible arson.

The three-alarm fire was reported shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday at a building under construction and spread to several neighboring row homes.

About 100 firefighters called to the scene reported the flames under control about two and one-half hours later. No injuries were reported.

A witness told investigators that he heard glass break and saw a man enter the property about 20 minutes before the fire started, and also saw a second man standing on the building's roof.

Officials say 15 adults and two children were displaced. A Red Cross shelter was set up for those residents.
