Local Politicians React to Shooting of Officer

Several local political leaders in he Philadelphia area issued statements Friday following the early-morning shooting of Philadelphia Police Officer Jesse Hartnett. Officer Hartnett, who police say was shot by a man who has claimed allegiance to the Islamic State, survived the shooting and is in stable condition. The suspect, 30-year-old Edward Archer, has confessed.

"My thoughts and prayers are with Officer Jesse Hartnett as he begins the recovery process following this morning's ambush. Like Officer Hartnett, all emergency responders face uncertainty and danger each day in service of our communities - their importance cannot be overstated. Reports that the attacker was motivated by an allegiance to ISIS is a stark reminder that radicalization and extremism is an international and domestic problem," Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick said in a statement.
