PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Philadelphia Police have arrested a 25-year-old man after they say he threw multiple eggs at the Frank Rizzo statue in Center City Wednesday.
Police say the man is from Maplewood, New Jersey, and threw the eggs around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The suspect has been charged with disorderly conduct.
The statue, which is located at 1401 JFK Boulevard, has been the center of renewed talks of removal in the wake of Saturday’s events in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Philadelphia Councilwoman Helen Gym is calling for the statue of the polarizing former mayor to be taken down.
Rizzo, the tough talking former cop from South Philly, has long been criticized for his volatile relationships with African Americans and LGBT communities.
FOX 29 has learned the Mural Arts project is also considering removing the 3-story mural of Rizzo from South Philly’s Italian Market.
