Man charged in shotgun slayings of 3 in North Philadelphia

-  PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- A man has been charged in the shotgun slayings of two men and a woman whose bodies were found after a brief standoff in north Philadelphia over the weekend.

James Dickson, 46, is charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault and other counts.

Officers responded shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday to a home in the Kensington neighborhood after a man told an emergency dispatcher that he had shot three people. He said he was armed with a shotgun but "was not opening the door until the sun comes up," police said.

Police said the man later fired several shots from inside the house at SWAT units as they were climbing onto the roof. At about 5 a.m. Sunday, he walked out the front door and was taken into custody.

Inside the home, police found three people lying in different rooms dead of shotgun blasts to the head. One man and one woman remain unidentified; the third victim was identified Monday as 46-year-old Edwin Laboy.

Another male who was able to flee the home was found with a gunshot wound to the arm. He was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

Court documents didn't name an attorney who could comment on Dickson's behalf and a listed number for Dickson couldn't be found Monday.
