Man documents aftermath of Tropicana shooting on Instagram

"What I didn't know was that a shooting had just occurred in the valet," says Erik Fischetti, pulling on a cigarette. "And there was mass chaos going on."

Eric Fischetti was smoking in front of the casino on Pacific Avenue when the man a man walked up to him and told him he'd been shot. Erik sounded the alarm to nearby police. "Yeah, they're at the actual shooting site, it's no fault to the police... they had no idea about him. Yeah -- they were just doing their job -- they didn't know."

Fischetti shot video throughout the incident. He does that because he's trying to document a different side of the city he loves, Atlantic City, on an Instagram page he calls Atlantic City Crust Kings. Is it journalism? Not really. But its his look at a side of AC many don't see. "There's a lot of pages you can go to and see the more glamour and glitz of Atlantic City. The Crust is what you'll go to when you want to see my reality."

How many violent crimes happen for each video shot by witnesses like Erik? At least two sources told Hank today that there'd been a double-stabbing at the Fox Manor Hotel, just down the street from the Tropicana, on Friday night. No one reported that.

Lynda Cohen's a former Press of Atlantic City reporter who's started her own site, BreakingAC.com. She and Erik call the Atlantic City area home, and the since the area sometimes goes under-reported by news media, she says the violence that can happen there gets misunderstood. "This is beefs that mean something between Atlantic City and Pleasantville, or Mays Landing, and you know these are all kind of connected," she says, from her home in Egg Harbor Township. "So it's not this horrible, scary place, and I think that a lot of people who are from here want that truth out. And so I think there's a lot of ways to do it."

My take is? She's right in this case. AC police have made two arrests in the shooting. One suspect is from New York, the other is from Pennsylvania. The victim, who's expected to recover, is from New York as well. All Atlantic City did in this case is serve as a setting for a shooting. Tweet Hank @hankfox29 or the house @fox29philly.
