"You just look outside your window and this car's upside down." It's how Stefanie Garner’s unexpected and early start to the day unfolded on South 17th Street at Fitzwater in South Philadelphia where a car lost control and slammed into four other cars before coming to a rest on it’s side.
The loud bang sounded like thunder to neighbors at 2:45 a.m. in the morning.
Philadelphia police say the driver of the striking car was trapped and had to be rescued with crews smashing the windshield to get to him. He was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.
FOX 29 cameras went back to the scene and saw a heavily damaged car still on the street nearly 12 hours after the drama unfolded.
Cops say speed was a factor. A witness reportedly says the driver said he tried to avoid a squirrel in the street when he lost control and hit the other cars.
The investigation is ongoing. No official cause has been released at this time.
