LOWER MORELAND (WTXF) - Two suspects have been arrested and charged after a homeowner was killed during a home invasion in Lower Moreland last week.
20-year-old Desmond O. Smith and 20-year-old Naadir Abdul-Ali have been charged with murder and related offenses.
The incident occurred on the 2300 block of Philmont Avenue in Huntingdon Valley at 11:10 p.m.
Lower Moreland Police responded to reports of a shooting at the location where they found a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds on the front lawn of the home.
"I heard some gunshots but I just thought it was somebody watching something on their phone out there because I had my windows open,” one neighbor told FOX 29.
The victim, identified as 53-year-old Kevin Brown, was able to crawl out of a top floor window and get down to the ground and died not long after. Sources say his wife followed out through the window as well and ran for help. Detectives say it all began when at least one gunman barged in through the back of the home.
"I think it's important to know that we don't think that this is a random attack on a house. These folks were targeted,” investigators said. “But the reason is not clear. We do know police are looking for at least one person who may have been a mask at the time of the murder.
According to investigators, at least two of the victim's children were home. Authorities say they were unharmed and were removed from the home by police.
According to a press release from Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Lower Moreland Township Police Chief Peter C. Hasson, Smith was arrested on October 2 inside his home on the 300 block of S. 10th Street in Philadelphia. He was arraigned and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.
Abdul-Ali was arrested on October 7. He will be arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Friedenberg on Thursday.
