Mom, Friend Arrested After Allegedly Placing Children, Ages 3 and 5, In Trunk of Car

(INSIDE EDITION) - A Pennsylvania mother and her friend were arrested after they allegedly stuffed her two young children in the trunk of a car and left them there as the pair sat in the front.

Jessica Marie Reger, 29, was allegedly seen placing her 3-year-old and 5-year-old children in the trunk of a red Corvette about 8:40 p.m. on July 10 on Second Avenue in Hanover, authorities said.

The car's driver, Ilena Gale Blackburn, 28, took off and drove east on West Middle Street, where Hanover Borough Police pulled them over, the York Dispatch reported.

An officer reportedly asked Blackburn to open her trunk, where Reger's children were found.

It was not immediately clear if the children were injured or what may have motivated their being put in a trunk.

Blackburn was charged with recklessly endangerment and having an improper child-restraint system and is scheduled to be arraigned on July 22, the Dispatch wrote.

Reger was charged with two counts each of endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person, according to charging documents viewed by the Dispatch.

She remains in York County Prison in lieu of $2,500 bail.
